Zoom 4 Teeth Whitening

Enamel lightening by 2-3 tones in an hour. The result lasts up to two years

Are you dreaming of a flawlessly radiant smile? At Kiadent Dental Clinic in central Odessa, we offer professional teeth whitening — the gold standard of aesthetic dentistry, recognized worldwide. It's the perfect choice for those seeking innovative technology and guaranteed results.

With Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed, you can achieve a snow-white smile in one visit, safely and effectively!

What is Zoom 4 teeth whitening and how does it work?

Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed is an innovative and highly popular in-office whitening system developed by American company DISCUS DENTAL. It delivers a flawless rejuvenating aesthetic effect after just one session.

How does it work?

The procedure uses a specialized whitening gel containing 25% hydrogen peroxide and the innovative Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed LED lamp. The gel contains a photo-activator that, under light exposure, accelerates hydrogen peroxide breakdown into free radicals. The resulting atomic oxygen penetrates the microspaces of tooth enamel and dentin, oxidizing stubborn pigments.

Enamel shade lightens by multiple tones depending on individual characteristics and chosen procedure intensity. This is regulated by the number of "clicks" (working cycles) of the lamp. Depending on your initial enamel color, your dentist may recommend one, two, three, or four "clicks." You can discuss desired results with your dentist and predict the required number of "clicks."

The safest whitening option

Zoom 4 in-office whitening was developed by American company DISCUS DENTAL. The procedure uses professional Philips LED lamps (Zoom WhiteSpeed) in dental clinics. This is the latest generation system — the safest and least sensitive for teeth. According to the manufacturer, as of 2021, approximately 4 million patients have whitened their teeth using this technology.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Zoom 4 whitening system

Advantages

  • Snow-white smile in 1 hour. Unlike home whitening kits, the Zoom 4 system provides instant results in just one clinical procedure. The session lasts slightly over an hour, allowing you to lighten enamel by 2–3 shades on the Vita scale, and in some cases — up to 4 shades.
  • Gentle impact and low sensitivity. The dental lamp features power adjustment capability, allowing light intensity modification based on tooth enamel sensitivity level. The reduced 25% concentration of active ingredient and presence of amorphous calcium phosphate (ACP) in the whitening gel help shorten the increased tooth sensitivity period to 24 hours and reduce pain while restoring enamel's mineral composition.
  • Long-lasting effect. According to clinical studies, Zoom 4 whitening results last up to 36 months (provided patients follow dentist recommendations).
  • Handles severe stains. The system successfully addresses even stubborn stains caused by fluorosis and antibiotic use (tetracycline-stained teeth).

Disadvantages

  • The most expensive whitening system on the market. Practically identical results can be achieved with Opalescence chemical whitening, which is significantly more affordable.
  • Ultraviolet exposure. Despite the Philips Zoom WhiteSpeed lamp being more advanced, it still generates light in the UV spectrum, which increases procedure contraindications.

Indications and contraindications for the ZOOM teeth whitening system

Kiadent clinic specialists recommend Zoom teeth whitening for significant and minor enamel darkening, as well as stains of various origins.

Indications

  • tooth enamel discoloration;
  • enamel yellowing due to smoking, age, diet;
  • tetracycline staining and fluorosis;
  • color restoration after braces removal;
  • molar lightening after veneers placement in the smile zone or after aesthetic composite restorations.

Contraindications

  • pregnancy and lactation;
  • cancer;
  • under 16 years of age;
  • increased tooth sensitivity due to insufficient enamel mineralization;
  • wedge-shaped defects (exposed cervical areas of teeth);
  • sources of oral infection — carious lesions, acute gum diseases (must be treated before the procedure).

There are nuances with fillings and crowns

Keep in mind that after the Zoom 4 tooth lightening procedure, fillings and crowns may become more visible in the oral cavity (artificial restorations do not whiten). If this significantly affects aesthetics, you will need to replace composite restorations to match the shade of whitened teeth and fabricate new prosthetic structures.

Stages of professional Zoom 4 teeth whitening

The Zoom 4 teeth whitening procedure in our clinic is carried out in several consecutive steps to ensure your comfort and achieve the best possible results.

  • 1. Stage. Dentist consultation and examination

    During examination, the dentist evaluates oral cavity condition, determines required preparation extent, and assesses whether the Zoom technique is suitable for you. If necessary, dental and gum disease treatment is performed first. In some cases, it's important to eliminate systemic causes that led to enamel color change. Mandatory preparation for whitening includes professional plaque and tartar removal, which must be performed 1–2 weeks before the procedure. After choosing the treatment method, a dental services contract is signed.

  • 2. Stage. Zoom teeth whitening procedure

    The dentist follows this protocol:
    - evaluates your tooth shade, determines desired color and thus session length;
    - fixes the patient's mouth in an open position using a retractor and isolates gum mucosa with liquid rubber dam;
    - applies whitening gel layer to dry tooth surfaces;
    - shines WhiteSpeed lamp onto teeth for 15 minutes. The procedure is repeated up to 3 times. Total light exposure time is 45 minutes;
    - treats dental arch with remineralizing gel to restore enamel properties.

  • 3. Stage. Securing whitening results at home

    After the procedure, the dentist will explain oral hygiene rules and recommend toothpaste to reduce sensitivity. You will also receive a home whitening kit to maintain clinical results and preserve whiteness (ZOOM — Day White and Night White), which contain lower hydrogen peroxide concentrations.

  • 4. Stage. What affects the visible result?

    The degree of tooth lightening depends on individual patient's natural characteristics. The whitening effect will be especially noticeable with pronounced enamel yellowing and less obvious in people with light-colored teeth. Also, remember that teeth can only be lightened to a certain point. If you want a Hollywood smile after the procedure, then it's better to get veneers or innovative lumineers.

Differences between Zoom 3 and Zoom 4 teeth whitening

Zoom 3 and Zoom 4 are different generations of the same technology. The main difference between them is the type of lamp used, which significantly affects procedure safety and comfort.

Zoom 2 and Zoom 3 are already outdated

Zoom 2 and Zoom 3 technologies are no longer used today, as they are considered less comfortable for patients compared to the latest generation.

Alternative enamel lightening technologies

Professional whitening systems used in dental clinics include: Flash, Opalescence, Amazing White, and laser whitening.

  • Opalescence. Belongs to professional chemical whitening technologies using 40% H2O2 gel. The system is approved by the American Dental Association. Its effectiveness and safety are comparable to Zoom 4, while being much more affordable.
  • Amazing White. This system is positioned as an alternative to Zoom whitening. The procedure uses gels with hydrogen peroxide concentrations of 16%, 25%, and 37%. Unlike Zoom-4, cold LED light with 100% UV filtration is used, reducing risks.
  • Laser whitening. In this technology, a dental laser activates the whitening gel (25% H2O2) instead of UV light. Laser light minimizes the risk of damaging dentin, enamel, and living pulp. Therefore, using laser energy waves along with the appropriate chemical agent enhances procedure effectiveness and safety.

Which is better: Zoom-4, Flash, Amazing White, or Opalescence?

In terms of price-quality-effectiveness, we unequivocally recommend Opalescence whitening. For patients with limited budgets, we usually suggest the alternative technology Amazing White. For more pronounced results in some clinical cases, Zoom-4 is preferable.

It's best to choose a particular whitening system during a consultation with your dentist at the clinic.

Questions and answers

  • Is Zoom-4 whitening safe?

    Clinical studies have proven the safety of the Zoom system for teeth, provided the procedure is carried out strictly according to indications and manufacturer recommendations. It is true that hydrogen peroxide in high concentrations temporarily changes tooth enamel's mineral composition. However, these changes are reversible — tooth structure is fully restored after the procedure. To reduce negative effects, enamel remineralization is carried out before and after whitening.

    Research

  • How often can Zoom 4 be done?

    Professional whitening is recommended no more than once a year. If patients follow dentist recommendations and use home whitening kits, the Zoom-4 procedure will not be needed again for 2–3 years.
