What is dental implantation?
This procedure helps to:
- restore the integrity of the dental arch;
- stop bone tissue atrophy;
- make your bite aesthetically perfect;
- restore chewing functions.
During the procedure, an implant — an artificial tooth consisting of three elements — is placed in the jawbone:
- A titanium root of the artificial tooth with a screw thread.
- Abutment. The connecting part between the implant and the crown.
- A crown made of metal-ceramics or zirconium. It provides the aesthetic look and chewing function.
Dental implants we trust
Through years of successful practice, we have selected ideal implant systems — Straumann, IHDE Dental (Switzerland), MegaGen, and K3Pro — which meet the following key criteria:
- Excellent biocompatibility;
- Durability;
- Reliability.
Straumann — premium-class Swiss dental implants. Ultra-thin yet very strong (with high load capacity). They distribute pressure evenly and gently on the bone (non-traumatic).
Our dental surgeons are certified professionals who regularly attend advanced training courses. This ensures they select the best implant system for each patient.
Steps of dental implantation
1. Step.
Consultation and diagnostics
A thorough oral examination is performed. We take 3D images and, if necessary, prescribe additional tests. The optimal implantation system is selected.
🕑 Duration: 1 day.
2. Step.
Preparation for implantation
Professional oral hygiene is performed: removal of dental plaque and calculus. Treatment of caries and other diseases is done.
🕑 Duration: 1-7 days.
3. Step. Implant placement
🕑 Duration: from 30 minutes to 1 hour per tooth implant.
4. Step. Prosthetics
Once the implant has fused (in 3-6 months), the doctor attaches the crown to the abutment.
🕑 Duration: up to 1 hour.
Doctor’s advice
In our clinic, we use premium implant systems: Straumann, IHDE Dental (Switzerland). These offer a wide range of configurations to select the best solution for each clinical case.
Why is dental implantation better than prosthetics on support teeth?
Implantation | Prosthetics |
---|---|
Use of healthy teeth | |
Not involved at all | Nerves are removed, and enamel is ground down, leading to gradual destruction (especially under load). |
Functionality | |
Fully restored. It feels like a natural tooth. A natural gum contour forms around the implant crown. It can withstand standard loads for 18-20 years. | Partial. In the area where there are no teeth, bone atrophy gradually occurs. |
The only drawback...
...that might make one hesitate about choosing implants is the price and time. Implants cost more and take longer to produce. However, this is due to their reliability. For example, a metal-ceramic crown lasts an average of 15-20 years, whereas traditional acrylic or nylon dentures may fail after just 1 year.
Implantation methods
Traditional method
The implant is placed and covered with a special cap. After 4-6 months, the gum is reopened, the abutment is placed, and the dental prosthesis is fixed.
Immediate placement
Tooth extraction and titanium implant placement in one day. Removable or non-removable prosthesis fixation (timing depends on the clinical case).

Using mini implants
Gum incision + mini implant placement. Prosthetics with lightweight temporary removable dentures with limited functions (within 1-3 days).
One-stage
Implant, abutment, and temporary crown placement in one visit. Permanent construction fixed within 3-6 months.

Combined method
Various implant types and techniques are selected for each part of the jaw, relevant for full edentulism.
Types of dental implants
Endosseous (intraosseous)
Implanted directly into the jawbone. They come in root-shaped, plate-shaped, and combined models. Suitable for both immediate and delayed load implantation.
Advantages
- Easy to install.
- Wide variety of models (simplifying selection for each clinical case).
- High osseointegration rate (above 93.5%).
Disadvantages
- Often require bone grafting.
- Extensive contraindications.
Mini implants
Resemble small screws (diameter: 1.8-2.4 mm; length: 6-10 mm). They come in monolithic (one-piece) and two-piece models (titanium pin + abutment). Typically used as a temporary solution.
Advantages
- Low cost.
- Minimally invasive placement.
- No bone grafting required.
- Quick recovery.
Disadvantages
- Incomplete restoration of function and aesthetics.
- Ball abutments wear out quickly.
- Unstable under load (orthopedic structure may shift); complex hygiene.
Basal implants
Inserted into the deep (basal) layer of the upper/lower jawbone.
Advantages
- Can be installed even with thin bone.
- No gum incision required.
- High primary stability.
Disadvantages
- High rejection rate.
- Long recovery period.
- Weaker under chewing loads.
Zygomatic implants
Long titanium pins (Zygoma Branemark (Nobel Biocare) and Zygomatic (Noris Medical)) are fixed in the zygomatic bone, which is not affected by inflammation or atrophy. Used when it’s impossible to place an artificial root in the jawbone due to severe atrophy.
Advantages
- Suitable even for contraindications to dental implantation (even with critical bone resorption with associated conditions like periodontitis, diabetes, etc.).
- Immediate non-removable prosthesis loading is possible.
- Minimal risk of implant loosening due to solid stabilization in the zygomatic bone.
Disadvantages
- Requires extensive preparation and skill from the dental surgeon.
- Only suitable for upper jaw rehabilitation.
- High cost.
Implant placement methods
Minimally invasive
Ensures faster recovery. It doesn't require gum flap detachment or suturing. The implants are screwed into place through a small puncture.
With flap detachment
This is done to access the bone during traditional implantation. The implant site is prepared, the implant is placed, and the tissue is sutured.
Immediate after tooth extraction
The most non-traumatic and natural option. Recommended for immediate implantation.
Types of prostheses on implants
Removable
Securely fixed, easily removed without assistance (by unlocking). No gag reflex. Doesn’t interfere with chewing or speech.
Conditionally removable
Similar to removable, but cannot be removed without a dentist’s assistance due to screw fixation.
Non-removable
We manufacture and install prostheses that are indistinguishable from natural teeth. Recommended for replacing one or more adjacent teeth, as well as for full jaw implantation for maximum aesthetic effect.
Indications for implant placement
Missing one tooth
We place an implant. For front teeth, if a temporary crown cannot be installed, we offer a temporary immediate prosthesis.
Missing two or three adjacent teeth
A bridge prosthesis or crowns supported by implants can be used. The first option involves
grinding down healthy teeth and removing their nerves. With implant-supported prosthetics, this is not necessary, so we recommend the latter.
Full tooth loss on one jaw
Implant-based prosthetics are performed using metal-ceramic or all-ceramic bridge constructions, achieving high aesthetic results.
A more economical option is conditionally removable prosthetics. It consists of a milled metal base covered with an acrylic base, fixed on implants (does not come off, does not distort speech, and reduces the risk of bone atrophy).
Another prosthetic option for full tooth loss is the All-on-4/All-on-6 technology. This technology provides results in just 1 day.
All-on-4. Two implants are placed where the front teeth used to be. The other two are angled and placed where the molars were. This ensures reliable implant fixation even without bone grafting.
Contraindications for implant placement
Relative
- Presence of a granuloma or cyst
- Viral infections
- Dental calculus
- Caries
- Breastfeeding
- Malocclusion
- Pregnancy
- Insufficient jawbone volume
Absolute
- Autoimmune diseases
- AIDS
- Malignant tumors
- Tuberculosis
- Mental disorders
- Chronic alcoholism or drug addiction
Questions and answers
- How long does it take for an implant to integrate?
On average, the artificial root integrates into the upper jawbone within 6 months, while the lower jaw takes about 2-4 months. These are average values and depend on the patient's anatomy and clinical history.
- My gums hurt after implantation. Is this normal?
Yes, it's a normal reaction to surgery. Discomfort may persist for up to 5 days. To minimize it, we prescribe pain relievers like Ketorol.
