Briefly About Crowns on Front Teeth
Front teeth do not actively participate in the chewing process. Therefore, strength is secondary. Aesthetic requirements are paramount. The prosthesis should ideally imitate the shape, color, and translucency of natural teeth.
These requirements are met by ceramics or zirconia. Which material to choose depends on the specific clinical situation.
Cost of a Crown on a Front Tooth
Prices are indicated per unit. They do not include preparation for restoring the dental arch: examination, oral sanitation, implantation. The exact turnkey prosthetics cost is announced after examination and diagnostics in our clinic.

Doctor's Advice
When choosing a prosthesis for front teeth, we consider many factors: the number of damaged teeth, whether single restorations or a bridge are suitable, the patient's enamel color and translucency, and even gender. Women handle prosthetic constructions more carefully, so slightly less durable but more aesthetic options can be used. Men often break artificial teeth, making strength critical for them.
Which Crowns on Front Teeth Are Better
Single crowns on 1–3 teeth:
Pressed ceramics E-max or zirconia with porcelain layering.
Restoration of the entire frontal zone: 8–10 units.
Monolithic zirconia prostheses Multi-layer. Ceramics like PRESS or CAD/CAM can also be used.
Pressed ceramics E-max PRESS.
Closing one missing front tooth: a three-unit bridge prosthesis.
Installation of prostheses on implants.
Crowns or bridges made of zirconia Multi-layer.
E-max Crown on Front Teeth — Before and After
A woman came to "Kiadent." The patient complained about poor dental restoration previously performed in another clinic. She was fitted with metal-ceramic crowns. The front teeth looked dark and unnatural against her natural teeth. The bluish gum line was also concerning.
The doctor removed the old prostheses, prepared the damaged enamel and dentin, and installed new ceramic crowns: E-max with individual aesthetics.
Just Not Metal-Ceramics
Metal-ceramic crowns on front teeth are always a bad idea. They look unnatural, lead to gum problems (bluish color, recession), and require significant tooth preparation. E-max crowns are an excellent alternative to the old technology.
Zirconia Crowns on Front Teeth — Before and After
The patient had misaligned front teeth and a crossbite. This led to abundant plaque accumulation and tartar formation, damaging the cutting edges of incisors and canines.
First, periodontal pocket cleaning was performed. Non-viable teeth were removed. Caries and pulpitis were treated. Tooth stumps were restored with fiberglass posts. Impressions were taken, temporary prostheses were made, and zirconia crowns with individual aesthetics were installed.
Zirconia crowns can be installed for extensive restorations when premolars, incisors, and canines need restoration. Zirconia dental bridges are used.
Veneers Instead of Crowns — Before and After
Veneers are an alternative when a patient has minor tooth defects. For example, a patient had abnormally small front teeth with large gaps between them, leading to poor aesthetics and difficulty biting food.
The doctor decided to increase the size of canines and incisors and close the gaps and diastemas using veneers. Together with the patient, they chose ceramic E-max veneers of standard aesthetics.
Veneers are also suitable for restoring teeth with chips, darkened enamel, and slight misalignment.
Steps of Installing a Crown on a Front Tooth in 2 Visits
First Visit
1. Step. Examination and Diagnostics
Visually assesses the condition of the entire oral cavity and the teeth that need prosthetics. Performs targeted X-ray images.
2. Step. Oral Cavity Sanitation
Removes dental tartar and plaque. Treats caries, gingivitis, and pulpitis.
3. Step. Tooth Preparation
Removes old restorations. Grinds away affected or darkened dentin. Shapes teeth to the required sizes. If necessary, restores the coronal part with post-and-core buildups, posts, or filling materials.
4. Step. Taking Impressions
The doctor at Kiadent clinic uses an intraoral 3D scanner to create a three-dimensional model of the jaws.
5. Step. Fixation of Temporary Plastic Crowns
They protect teeth from damage and exposure to food and drinks. Permanent crowns will be made in 7 days.
Second Visit
6. Step. Fitting
Places the crown on the tooth and asks the patient to close their jaws to check if the prosthesis disrupts occlusion.
7. Step. Installing the Crown
Applies dental light-curing cement to the inner part of the prosthesis and the tooth. Fixes the restoration on the incisor or canine.
When Is Large-Scale Smile Restoration Needed
Complete restoration of all front teeth is performed if:
- Several teeth are damaged
- One or more teeth are missing
- There is a malocclusion
- Significant enamel defects exist: darkening, chips
- Poor-quality or outdated restorations are present on several canines and incisors
- Extensive gaps and diastemas are present
In such cases, the Kiadent dental clinic uses Digital Smile Design technology—computer 3D modeling of the future smile.
Using DSD, we create a three-dimensional model of the jaws. The patient can see how their new teeth will look and discuss color, shape, and translucency with the dentist.
Based on the virtual model, we manufacture high-precision wax restorations. The patient tries on templates of future prostheses and can see firsthand how the new teeth will look, making adjustments if desired.
Prevention
To ensure ceramic and zirconia crowns last 10–20 years or more, it's important to care for them properly:
- Brush your teeth morning and evening. Use a toothbrush with soft or medium bristles and toothpaste with an RDA of 30 to 90. Hard bristles and highly abrasive products can scratch ceramics or zirconia.
- Rinse your mouth after each meal. This washes away food residues, preventing plaque accumulation and reducing bacteria.
- Clean interdental spaces. Use floss or an irrigator.
- Avoid sticky, chewy foods. Caramels, gum, dough, and halva are prohibited.
- Avoid hard foods. Do not chew seeds, nuts, bagels, crackers, corn cobs, or brittle candies. Cut large pieces of meat, raw vegetables, and fruits.
- Do not combine cold and hot foods or drinks. For example, avoid washing down ice cream with hot cocoa.
- Minimize or eliminate staining products. Beets, carrots, currants, mulberries, blackberries, strong tea and coffee, juices, rich compotes and fruit drinks, etc.
- Quit smoking. Tar and nicotine stain prosthetic constructions.
- Wear a silicone mouthguard at night. For patients with bruxism.
Questions and Answers
- How long do ceramic and zirconia prostheses last?
The minimum service life of ceramic crowns and veneers is 10 years, and zirconia crowns last up to 20 years.
- Is it necessary to use an irrigator, or is dental floss enough?
If separate zirconia or ceramic crowns or veneers are installed, interdental spaces can be cleaned with floss. Care must be taken not to catch the edges of the prostheses. However, it's better to use an irrigator. For patients with a bridge, it is mandatory to wash out food residues and plaque from under the bridge structure.
- Is it possible to correct crooked teeth with crowns or veneers?
Yes, it is possible for front teeth with minor misalignment by closing diastemas and gaps. However, the position of the roots will remain incorrect. If the bite is significantly disturbed, it's better to first undergo orthodontic treatment and then reconstruct the damaged incisors, canines, and premolars.
