At the Kiadent Author Prosthetics Dental Clinic, you can have E-max ceramic crowns installed at a price below the average cost in Odessa.
IPS e.max is a monolithic ceramic system from the company Ivoclar Vivadent (Liechtenstein).
It is intended both for single restorations in the anterior section and for highly aesthetic bridge prostheses from 3 to 12 units.
Since its market introduction in 2005, E-max ceramics have earned the trust of prosthodontists and dental technicians worldwide, including in Ukraine. It consists of 70% lithium disilicate crystals, whose light-transmitting characteristics match natural enamel.
Indications and Contraindications
Indications
- the tooth is affected by caries by more than 50%;
- significant non-carious destruction of the tooth (wedge-shaped defect, chip, enamel wear);
- restoration of one front tooth;
- restoration of several consecutive missing units in the smile zone (with single crowns or a bridge prosthesis );
- allergy to metal.
Contraindications
- bruxism;
- presence of a large number of composite fillings.
Types of E-max Ceramics
Ivoclar Vivadent produces the following range of materials from which highly aesthetic metal-free crowns can be made.
Press
Pressable blanks made of lithium disilicate (LS2) glass-ceramic, possessing a strength of 470 MPa. The use of adhesive fixation techniques allows making crowns with a thickness of only 1 mm.
Press Multi
An improved version of the IPS E-max Press material, whose main difference is polychromy. The gradation of shades and translucency matches natural enamel—a transition of shade from white at the cutting edge to yellowish in the cervical zone. Restorations made from IPS e.max Press Multi offer the best aesthetics.
CAD
The crown is milled from a solid block of E-max ceramic on a milling machine using CAD/CAM technology. The resulting products are slightly inferior in strength to prostheses made from pressed e.max Press ceramics and have fewer shade selection options. This technology is used to make single metal-free constructions.
ZirCAD
High-strength zirconia oxide blocks (from 850 to 1200 MPa), from which restorations with increased mechanical stability, thin walls, and an aesthetic appearance can be made. Prosthetic constructions from E-max ZirCAD require minimal tooth preparation.
ZirPress
Fluorapatite glass-ceramic blocks are pressed onto IPS e.max ZirCAD frameworks. This type of glass-ceramic is in demand for bridge prostheses longer than 5 crowns. There are blanks in three opacity variants of A-D colors and four bleached BL colors.
IPS e.max Ceram
Nano-fluorapatite ceramic designed for layering onto any material from the IPS e.max range. It allows the prosthodontist to achieve a flawless aesthetic result with the effect of natural light scattering.
What is better: e.max Press or e.max CAD?
Crowns made of E-max Press surpass e.max CAD products in both aesthetics and strength characteristics. They are also slightly cheaper since expensive CAD/CAM equipment is not used in their production process.

Steps of Installation
1. Step. Examination and instrumental diagnostics
The prosthodontist visually examines all teeth and gums, assessing their current health status. The problematic tooth is examined in detail, performing a targeted X-ray and orthopantomogram if necessary.
2. Step. Professional oral hygiene
Removes plaque and tartar. If necessary, treats the tooth on which the crown is planned. Addresses any existing inflammation.
3. Step. Tooth preparation
Under local anesthesia, the doctor prepares the enamel of the problematic tooth (up to 0.5 mm). Using an intraoral scanner, a three-dimensional model of the jaw is obtained without taking impressions. A temporary prosthesis is installed for the period of making the permanent prosthetic construction.
4. Step. Crown fabrication
The obtained impressions are transferred to the dental laboratory to manufacture the restoration from E-max ceramics.
5. Step. Prosthetics
The prosthodontist tries on the crown. In the absence of discomfort complaints from the patient, it is installed using dental cement.
Advantages and Disadvantages
Advantages
- Flawless aesthetics. Thanks to the ability to transmit light, E-max crowns are indistinguishable from natural teeth and do not alter the color of the gum contour.
- Minimal preparation. Imax crowns are thin, requiring minimal enamel preparation and no depulpation of the supporting tooth.
- Hypoallergenic. Lithium disilicate is a biocompatible material that does not cause allergies, unlike metal and metal-ceramic prostheses.
- High strength. E-max ceramics are not inferior to metal in terms of strength indicators and are practically not susceptible to chipping, while offering high aesthetics.
- Adhesive fixation. They are fixed to the tooth according to a special protocol that prevents decementation.
Disadvantages
- Cost. The only disadvantage of metal-free Imax crowns is the relatively high price (1.5 times more expensive than metal-ceramic ones).
E-max Ceramic Crowns or Zirconia Dioxide—Which Is Better?
Aesthetics
In terms of aesthetics, E-max crowns are definitely better, as they have no framework and closely match the optical properties of a natural tooth.
Strength
Solid zirconia products are slightly stronger than E-max prostheses. However, if comparing zirconia dioxide crowns with ceramic veneering to prostheses made from E-max, the latter are stronger.
Biocompatibility
Both materials are absolutely hypoallergenic and do not cause allergic reactions.
So when is ceramics better, and when zirconia? 🤔
Zirconia crowns are better suited for:
- bridge prostheses on molar teeth;
- bridges of 4 or more units (both anterior and posterior);
- single restorations or bridges supported on implants;
- patients with bruxism.
E-max ceramic crowns are preferable for:
- restoration of a single front tooth;
- restoration of 2-3 front teeth (bridge).
